No one can escape the passing of time, not our body, mind or even spirit. And along with the passing of time, our skin suffers changes. Collagen begins to break down, subcutaneous fat is redistributed; and so our tender youthful complexion begins to sag, lose its elasticity and eventually develop those much-dreaded wrinkles. Although no single treatment available today can correct their changes, today we shall take a look at the existing wrinkle treatment cream and active formulas options of attenuating the signs left by the wear and tear of time.
Most of the imperfections that appear in aging skin are caused by continuous exposure to ultraviolet B light (which is associated with sunburn), ultraviolet AII light and ultraviolet AI light. The skin changes that occur from constant exposure to solar UV irradiation are fine wrinkles, texture abnormalities, actinic keratosis (skin lesions) and pigmentation disorders.
Anti-Aging Agents
Phenolic Veratric Acid
A research on phenolic veratric acid was conducted in order to verify theories which claimed this acid had anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory and photo protective effects. The phenolic veratric acid is heavily derived from vegetables, fruits, and medicinal mushrooms.
After initial tests on human skin models, they investigated the clinical effects of phenolic veratric acid on facial wrinkles in humans. The researchers found that the acid increased epidermal layer integrity, increased type I procollagen and proteins that protect against UV radiation. The results showed that local application of a cream containing phenolic veratric acid significantly attenuated facial wrinkles in humans and can be used as a treatment for UV-induced skin aging.
Fetal Tissue
Fetal tissue has been proven to possess regenerative and healing effects. A modern tissue engineering technology produces human cell conditioned mediums that contain growth factors and cytokines similar to those existing in fetal cells. This soluble matrix material has been incorporated into a wrinkle treatment cream in order to treat facial wounds and improve the appearance of skin suffering from photoaging.
Studies observed the effects of skincare products that contained human cell conditioned mediums on participants that displayed moderate sign of photoaging for a period of 3 months. They found that the agents significantly increase the quality and aspect of the skin.
Bee Venom Serum
If you’re looking for a good wrinkle treatment cream, try reading the fine print and look for the ones containing bee venom serum. Interesting right? I thought so as well when I came across studies investigating this agent.
In one such research, 22 participants with mild to moderate photodamage, and different skin types (dry, oily, normal, and combination) applied 4 mL of bee venom serum on their entire facial skin twice a day, for 12 weeks.
Clinical evaluations of their skin were done at week 0 (to establish a baseline), 4, 8 and 12. Significant improvement to total wrinkle count, total wrinkle area, and average wrinkle depth was observed in all participants at week 8 and 12 of treatment. It is also considered that long-term treatment with bee venom serum is safe.
One beauty and skin care company took notice of these studies and incorporated bee venom in a line of anti-aging skin care products, with great success I might add. The company in question is Rodial. You can get a great offer on their bee venom serum here:

Hyaluronic Acid Serum and Human Growth Factors
Let’s delve into hyaluronic acid serum and human growth factors. Miracle workers indeed! Needless to say, there are hundreds of studies on their effects on human skin. I will not bore you with endless literature, but I will say that they work on every skin type and should be a part of every self-respecting wrinkle treatment cream.
And to back up my statement I chose a study that that enlisted 23 Korean women with ages between 39 and 59 years. The participants completed an eight-week trial in which they applied human growth factor and hyaluronic acid serum to their entire face. The results were, of course amazing. Wrinkles were clearly improved after the treatment. Both participants and physicians agreed on the positive changes, The serum was well tolerated and no treatment-related side effects accrued during the study.
Arctium Lappa Fruit Extract
Let’s talk about fruits. Once again nature comes to our aid in times of dire need. Arctium lappa, or more commonly known as the greater burdock, is a species of plants from the sunflower family. It is normally cultivated for its root, which is used as a vegetable. But what the medical community took interest in, is its fruit.
A research was conducted to test its effects on human skin. Long story short, researchers used Arctium lappa fruit extract (Arctiin – the active compound) to induce collagen and hyaluronan synthesis. The results determined that using a wrinkle treatment cream that contains natural Arctium lappa fruit extract, helps regenerate skin structures and thus leads to a visible reduction of facial wrinkles. More details on the study can be found here.
Creatine
Now the dermal collagen matrix is what provides structure and stability to our skin. Unfortunately, with the increase in age, collagen degenerates and thus skin begins to gradually lose its elasticity, allowing for the formation of wrinkles. Previous studies theorized that a reduction in cellular energy contributes to low regeneration of collagen fibers. This is where creatine comes in. Creatine is a nitrogenous organic acid that helps supply energy to all the cells in our body.
A study looked to investigate if by topically applying creatine to skin could stimulate the production of collagen and by doing so improve clinical signs of aging. The study was conducted on 43 males, utilizing a face care cream that contained creatine. After 6 weeks researchers discovered that the formula greatly reduced sagging of the check, wrinkles around and under the eyes. To sum it up, creatine is a beneficial active ingredient for treating and preventing human skin aging, and should be an ingredient of your wrinkle treatment cream. You can find more information on the study here.
Oral supplements
Divide and conquer. If you want to achieve maximum results in fighting off skin aging, find yourself a great wrinkle treatment cream and couple it with an oral supplement that will work your skin from the inside as well.
Collagen Hydrolysate and Asraxanthin
A clinical study investigated the effects of using a combination of dietary collagen hydrolysate and astaxanthin supplements on moderately photoaged skin in humans. 44 healthy participants were enrolled in the study. A group was treated with a supplement of astaxanthin (2 mg per day) in combination with collagen hydrolysate (3 grams per day), while the other group received placebo. The participants took the supplements for 12 weeks. The hydration and elasticity of the facial skin were tested before the beginning of the trial and at the 12-week mark.
The supplement group showed significant improvements in skin elasticity and skin water loss in comparison with the placebo group. These results demonstrate that adding a supplement of astaxanthin in combination with collagen hydrolysate to a diet can improve the elasticity and skin integrity of people with moderately photoaged skin.
VISCODERM Pearls
If you’re looking for anti-aging supplements, another winning formula that the scientific world researched, looks something like this: collagen, coenzyme Q10, Pycnogenol, hyaluronic acid, glucosamine sulfate and chondroitin sulfate. The study enlisted 30 women suffering from moderate to severe photodamage to receive supplement treatment or placebo.
They assessed skin pH, sebum, hydration, elasticity and tonicity of the skin. The supplement and placebo were given to participants twice a day for a period of 4 weeks. Skin quality of participants was analyzed at week 0 and 2 after the treatment has ended.
The supplement treatment greatly improved skin hydration, sebum and tonicity of skin in participants 2 weeks after the end of administration in comparison to those that received placebo. Now the product that hit a home run with its formula is VISCODERM Pearls, developed by IBSA Farmaceutici Italia SLR. Now while this product was found to have great uses for treating photo-aging, more research is needed to understand long-term effects. Wrinkle Treatment Cream that Got it Right
In another study, 21 female participants with age between 35 and 65 were enlisted. The participants presented with moderate amounts of photodamage, fine wrinkles, and lines. This time, the research was more specific, they were testing a certain wrinkle treatment cream: Regenica® Replenishing Crème and Regenica® Renew SPF for 3 months.
They observed progressive significant improvements from month to month. The investigators assessed skin tone evenness, wrinkles, visual texture, roughness, blotchiness, radiance and translucency. At week 12, 93.5% of the participants agreed with all of the positive assessments that the researchers found, and more impressively 100% of them said they would gladly recommend the product to a friend. Regenica was found clinically effective and safe in reducing skin aging effects in this study.
Author’s Note
There are indeed good creams out there that can help keep our complexion young and rejuvenated. Though we must keep in mind that the effects are not permanent and that continuous treatment is required. Also, what is of utmost importance is to find the wrinkle treatment cream that works best to satisfy your needs and body.
