We’re all responsible adults or highly intelligent adolescents here, and know very well the terrors of unprotected sex. Hell every social media has made sure to bombard our retina with pictures of highly disfigured genitalia as a warning to what will happen to us if god forbid we just let loose for a moment. But what has everyone failed to explain is why is sex better without a condom?
You’ll have to excuse me if I take my gloves off for this one.
The senses have a lead role to play in the sexual satisfaction of women and men. Physical contact is pivotal for achieving sexual arousal with a partner that you are emotionally intimate with. Tactile stimuli transmit excitatory information to the spinal cord, therefor facilitating the arousal response in the genital area. The nerve endings in our skin are excited by pressure, friction, differences in temperature and pain. Direct contact between our genital area will result in a higher level of stimulation of our receptors, clearly being a key reason to why is sex better without a condom.
What you see is what you get
Let us not forget about our other senses, they also play an important part. In our image-obsessed world, no one can doubt the role that visual stimuli play in the creation of a sexual response. Studies have shown that both females and males register higher levels of pleasure during sex while watching their raw genital area interlock.
Auditory stimuli such as sex noises(two bodies thrusting against each other), moaning, gorilla mating calls or any other forms of sex talk people are into these days, may equally act as sexual cues.
Pheromones and hormones the real culprits behind why is sex better without a condom
Yet some of the more interesting bodily products that heighten our sexual pleasure are pheromones. These steroid compounds could most likely be an important key to understanding why is sex better without a condom.
Generally pheromones are mainly social chemo-signals: they give information on the hierarchy and the place the one emitting the signals is placed in it, thus playing an important part in mate selection They can also hint what food has been recently consumed.
Humans pheromones have been discovered in bodily secretions such as vaginal secretions, semen, urine, axillary sweat, breast milk, saliva and even breath. These are odorless secretion but they acquire a particular scent after interacting with bacterial flora found on our skin. The dispersal of these scents is facilitated by a number of factors such as clothing layers, total hair surface, body temperature, proximity to another body and movements.
The main human pheromones theorized until today are androstenone, androstenol, androstadienone, and estratetraenol. One of these compounds, androstadienone, is present at much higher concentrations in male sweat, semen and urine and can be detected by women, but with wide variation in sensitivity. During a study researchers applied a pharmacological dose of androstadienonein on the upper lip of women, resulting in a marked improvement in mood and heightened focus. This was shown to facilitate a women’s sexual response and improve sexual satisfaction.
Pheromones may also play a role in mate selection, preliminary evidence suggests that exposure through full contact in women and men promotes attractiveness ratings of potential
Oxytocin is another hormone that is important for human attachment in general, and is generally known as a “pro-social hormone”. Oxytocin is detected in plasma but it is also present in saliva and urine. Studies have shown an increase in oxytocin levels during intercourse has been linked to a higher sexual satisfaction.
There is plenty of data, a lot of speculation and the science is not yet completely clear on why is sex better without a condom.
To rubber or not to rubber? In my humble opinion, although a condom will take away from some of your pleasure, the act itself is not where all your sexual satisfaction comes from. Or hey if you’re really keen on the getting that maximum high from sex, you can always take two shots of Penicilin and pray your genitalia doesn’t fall off.
